Montreal, QC, Canada    2006 - 2008

This project is located in the historical complex in downtown Montreal known as “Mont Royal.” On the lower two levels of the fifteen story complex, juxtaposing the subway access and “underground city,” WTA was selected from among a very high caliber of American firms to design a multi-specialty surgery center and a large healing SPA. The SPA occupied approximately 14,000 square feet and included three health pools as part of the program. The surgery center included three Class “C” operating rooms, the normal arrangement of support spaces and occupied approximately 19,000 square feet. It was the client’s intent to create the most technologically advanced facility in all of Canada. No expense was spared in the outfitting of the operating rooms-manifesting all equipment on booms and the like. As part of the patient experience, the client provided an unusual array of twenty-one patient dressing rooms; all including showers, sinks, safes, personal grooming devices and special mood lighting. Unlike the American version of private dressing rooms, there were no lockers provided. Instead, each room was occupied by a single patient from the time they arrived until the time they left. The rich materials that ordained the floors, walls and ceilings included special ceramic and porcelain tile imported from Italy and Spain, full-spectrum light boxes in the walls (each fifteen square feet alone) drywall ceilings with special acoustic and visual treatments throughout the facility, darkly stained hardwood crown-molding and wall base molding throughout the facility, three aquariums, and highly ornate chandeliers in the public areas. This project also included the design and construction of a sixty person theatre, complete with leather upholstery and food serving area.
