Wilson Medical Clinic

Wilson, WY    2006 - 2007

The Wilson Clinic and Spa was the dream of several individuals; some involved with the “Teton Outpatient Surgery Center” designed by Wade Taylor, AIA in 1998. As a previous client; WTA was engaged to resolve the stagnation of their project that was the result of using a non-healthcare architect. The group wanted an extremely efficient clinic that was environment friendly. In the end the facility boasted of sealed concrete floors, exposed concrete vertical circulation components, and unique tectonic detailing. This approach included the careful extraction and placement of large “Fish Fossils from the Eocene Age” (believed to be 60 Million years old) secured from the Ulrich’s Fossil Quarry located 200 miles southwest of Wilson. One of the pieces was twelve feet long and served as the reception counter. WTA successfully combined contemporary building materials with ancient fossil stone. Unlike the majority of medical office buildings throughout the United States, this facility did not lend itself to the common tried and true floor plan layouts. WTA relied on its experience in healthcare design coupled with its dedication to innovative thinking; to come up with a truly unique facility. The end result was a 6000 square- foot, two-story building that had the flexibility of acting as an urgent care facility (complete with diagnostic imaging) in the event that the mountain Village of Wilson was cut-off from the surrounding healthcare network due to severe winter storms.
